From SCADA to drone thermography: building one asset data layer

A practical pattern for normalizing monitoring and inspection data across wind, solar, storage and grid assets.

One asset data layer means every measurement, image and finding about a physical asset resolves to the same component record, regardless of which vendor or system produced it. The pattern has three parts: an open asset model, source adapters, and append-only history.

Start with the asset, not the data

Most integration projects start by mapping formats. The durable approach starts by modelling the physical world: sites, arrays, strings, turbines, blades, racks, towers, spans. Gridledger ships an open asset model for wind, solar, BESS, geothermal and transmission assets, so every incoming record has exactly one place to land.

Adapters, not lock-in

Each source gets a small open adapter: SCADA historian exports, aerial thermography deliverables, IV curve traces, BMS telemetry, ROV footage indexes, PDF inspection reports. Adapters translate vendor specifics into the shared model. Anyone could write one, audit one, or fork one, which is the structural difference from a proprietary integration hub.

History you can hand to anyone

Because every record lands on the same component with the same severity language, the result is a ledger: an append-only condition history per asset. Owners use it to rank work, OEMs use it to spot fleet patterns, utilities use it for compliance, and insurers use it to verify condition at any point in time. One layer, every stakeholder, no re-keying.
